Greens slowest I have played on all year and some of the fairways no longer have the finer grasses they used to have. San Lorenzo Golf Course - Quinta do Lago, Algarve, Portugal The fairways were poor with sections having apparently suffered from disease and struggling to grow back. I know this is not usually a 20something year old female type hobby, but I used to play on the varsity golf team in high, I love golf! With its interesting layout and fantastic scenery, not to mention two of the best finishing holes I have played, its a course that you have to really think your way around to score well.

The first 5-6 holes had fluffy fairways. Greens were fine but fairways missed a bit of grass so we used preferred lies rule.

After the 5th hole, a par-3 and the course's shortest, you're introduced to a dolgleg, stroke 1 sixth hole where your main challenge will be to avoid the dense shrub, so make sure you get your distances just right. 2023-03-26

The 6402 yard course (yellow tees - 6800 yard white tees) is a classic risk and reward style course and considered a must play in the Algarve, regularly appearing in the top 5. Short hole where club selection is vital. Changing rooms very poor.

Unfriendly Golf but a PERFECT Hotel - Tripadvisor The green fees are priced to stop you playing here, but if you get to play here the fairways are tight lies, the greens are excellent, the design challenging, with coastal holes providing an extra challenge. It would be awesome if they had a swimming pool, but I guess you cannot have everything. After a stretch of tough holes, this Par 5 offers a brief respite.
This is a former 5 star course that has been allowed to fall from grace. The 6th hole is the first that brings another element into play. San Lorenzo Golf Course in located in the Quinta do Lago Resort and enjoys a reputation for the excellent condition of its fairways and its attractive views around a lake formed by the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. The 18 holes lie in the unspoiled Southeast corner of Quinta do Lago, bordering the Ria Formosa Estuary and salt water lagoons. Once you reach the top of the hill the approach plays slightly down to a green that has bunkers both front left and right. The 17th (our 8th) onwards however were much better with some beautiful hols and the fairways seemed much better. Tough Par 3 requiring a precisely struck iron shot to find this heavily protected green. The golf course is excellent and the staff were very good. The outward first five holes are through the pine tree forest. The jaw-dropping beauty for which San Lorenzo is famed is revealed on the tee of the par-3 5th. Holes 13th to 16th also face the ocean with the latter proving to be the most demanding par-3, featuring a whole 180 m carry to a shallow green. The wind can really come into play here too so choose your club wisely! Loved the course and the caddy staff were very helpful when we had a faulty battery out on the course.

Approach shot plays downhill so consider taking one less club than the yardage. If you want to have a pre round warm up, there is a small range and a putting area as well as a great clubhouse with a large outdoor terrace to fuel up before you head out. We were there during a heat wave yet the A/C worked perfectly and in fact had to be turned down. Of course such a unique golf course had to have unique requirements concerning the booking of your green fees and that is only possible if you are a guest at the 5 star Dona Filipa Hotel nearby or by contacting a selected few like Tee Times Golf Agency who will make the required arrangements to book what will be one of the most special games of golf you will ever play in your life. We won the tournament, but that's when the trouble started. The fact that this is an award-winning golf course is no coincidence. We were warmly welcomed by the attentive and gracious staff with champagne, fresh fruit, fresh flowers and handwritten congratulations. The 10th is a quality start to the back 9 and needs a brave drive across two lakes. It features towering pine woods that open up to spectacular ocean vistas and far-off mountain backdrops. A decent drive gives you a great birdie chance, if you stay clear of the water!

Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Golf Academy, Pro-Shop, Restaurant & Bar, San Lorenzo is the busiest in September and quietest in January. The fact that this is an award-winning course is no coincidence.

The bunkers lacked a consistent sand base with many being just solid. Log In | Goodness me, you really feel like you are entering another world of Castles and Legends when you drive up to this hotel. As you get to the 7th, life is by no chance made easier but you still get the bonus of the outstanding views from this elevated tee before you have to focus on how to get around that green almost entirely surrounded by water. Bordering with the breathtaking Ria Formosa Natural Park, some of its holes are blessed with what can only be described as exquisite beauty, complemented with salt water lakes.

In the UK we care allowed to visit places like this, but not often to stay in them.
