I am happy to say that the drag racing fans still love the golden oldies. There was an absolute mob watching the cackle cars come to life at the Route 66 Nationals in Joliet Illinois this year. The track has been closed for the last 4 years. It came back to life in a big way this past weekend. The future is still unclear for the track however the future may look brighter because of the large crowds on hand to watch 22 Top Fuel cars attempt to qualify. In recent years it has been hard to get 16 cars to show up so it is a breath of fresh air to see 6 more teams in the pits.
The nostalgia car were there and ready to cackle all weekend. The cars fired up at 11am on Saturday morning and it was a huge success. There were hundreds and hundreds of people surrounding the cars. Here are some of the photos I took of the Saturday morning cacklefest.
